USCIS Will Be Testing an Updated Version of the Naturalization Exam
January 5th, 2023
On December 14, 2022, USCIS announced that it will be testing an upgrade to the naturalization exam. Currently, the test consists of “reading, writing, civics, and ability to speak English.” USCIS will be testing two updated components of the exams: civics and spoken English, which may become the standard when assessment is complete. The assessment will take place sometime in 2023 over a five-month period. This update is in congruence with President Biden’s Executive Order 14012, Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems and Strengthening Integration and Inclusion Efforts for New Americans, which mandates an evaluation of the naturalization process.
