US CIS Releases Revised I-9 Form
March 10th, 2013
US CIS has released a newly revised Employment Eligibility Verification Form (Form I-9). Employers are required to use Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization eligibility of their employees. The new I-9 form was made available on March 8, 2013.
Prior versions of the form with revision date of "Rev. 08/07/09 Y" and "Rev. 02/02/09 N" can no longer be used by employers as of May 7, 2013.
The newly revised Form I-9 has been updated to make several improvements designed to minimize errors in its completion. These changes include adding data fields, including the employee's foreign passport information (if applicable) and telephone and e-mail addresses. Additionally, the form's instructions were revised to provide additional guidance to employers and employees regarding the completion of the form.
A copy of US CIS's Handbook for Employers (M-274), which provides information about how to complete the Form I-9, is available here.
