TPS Extension For El Salvador
July 15th, 2016
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has been extended, by Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, for eligible nationals of El Salvador including those without nationality but who last resided in El Salvador. The extension grants an additional 18 months of TPS and will be effective September 10, 2016 through March 9, 2018. (Click here for original release.)
TPS beneficiaries wanting to extend their TPS will need to re-register during the re-registration period running July 8, 2016 through September 6, 2016. Beneficiaries are encouraged to re-register as soon as possible during the 60 day period.
The extension also allows TPS re-registrants to apply for a new Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Those who re-register will receive a new EAD expiration date of March 9, 2018. Those with existing EADs, whose current work permits have not yet expired, will receive an automatic 6 month extension with validity through March 9, 2017.
Additional information on eligibility and the application process can be found on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigrations Services website.
