Regional Travel Bans Rescinded, Replaced with Vaccination Requirement for Nonimmigrant International Travel
October 27th, 2021
Starting November 8, 2021, Covid-19 travel bans will be rescinded by Presidential Proclamation. The new requirement will be a Covid-19 vaccination requirement for international air travel for nonimmigrant travelers to the U.S. The previous travel ban affected foreign nationals present in Brazil, China, India, Iran, Ireland, the Schengen Area, South Africa or the United Kingdom.
As of November 8 2021, foreign nationals entering the U.S. on a nonimmigrant visa or ESTA clearance will be required to prove that they have received full Covid-19 vaccination in order to board a flight to the United States. Limited exceptions to the vaccine policy are expected to be available for children, Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial participants, and those traveling for a recognized, important reason without access to vaccination in a timely manner.
Existing Covid-19 testing requirements are expected to remain the same for vaccinated travelers. Unvaccinated U.S. citizens and certain foreign nationals eligible for limited exceptions from the vaccine requirement are expected to be required to prove a negative Covid-19 test taken within one day of their flight, and also provide proof that they have purchased a viral test to be taken after their arrival in the United States.
