On January 29, 2013, U.S. Senators Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.) introduced the Immigration Innovation (I2) Act of 2013. I2 aims to introduce immigration reforms that will benefit high skilled workers.

The purpose of this bill is to ensure that the United States maintains competitiveness in the global economy. Its aims are to increase the number of available H-1B visas; increase access to green cards for highly-skilled workers, particularly for those who are U.S. STEM advanced degree holders, persons of extraordinary ability, and outstanding professors and researchers; and reform fees on H-1B and green cards so that those fees may be used to promote American worker retraining and education.

President Obama has gone on the record stating that he believes he will sign comprehensive immigration law reform into law by the end of this year.
