DHS Extends TPS for Several Countries

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced yesterday that it will extend Temporary Protected Status designations for nationals of El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan through December 31, 2022. This extension includes an automatic extension of employment authorization and other TPS-related documents such as Forms I-94 and I-797, provided timely re-registration.

While it is not necessary for TPS beneficiaries to obtain a new EAD in order to benefit from the extension, beneficiaries may obtain a new EAD by filing a Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization) with USCIS, along with the filing fee or fee waiver request. Pending I-765 applications will automatically be extended until December 31, 2022.
