E-Verify Expanded to More North Carolina Employers
January 2nd, 2013
Effective January 1, 2013, North Carolina employers that employ 100 or more employees must use E-Verify to verify the work authorization of their newly hired employees.
E-Verify is an Internet-based system that compares information from an employee's Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to data from U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records to confirm employment eligibility.
E-Verify has been required for larger employers since October 1, 2012. As of July 1, 2013, E-Verify will be required for employers with 25 to 99 employees.
Information on the E-Verify program is available here.
